It is one of the five astronomical observatories in India, built by Maharajah Jai Singh II between 1727 and 1734. The Jantar Mantar of this place is the largest of the five that is still used to measure time, predict solar eclipses, the stars in their orbits and determine the celestial heights of the various celestial bodies.
